DAY 74 - 2016 WEIGHT LOSS AND BLOOD GLUCOSE CHALLENGE

January 11, 2016

Today is Day 74

Weight goal - 139.4 or lower
Actual weight - 140.4

Blood glucose goal - 80 or lower
Actual blood glucose - 87

Today is a Fast Day.

For me, that means that all I will have today is water, coffee, tea, or broth, all without caloric sweeteners or fat.  Each day, I will weigh in, check my fasting blood glucose, find out if I will feast or fast that day, update my chart and post it here on the big blog. I'm posting it to motivate myself not to give up, and if I think that anyone is looking at this, it will help to keep me accountable.

I figured I would be fasting again today, as far away as I was with my goals yesterday morning.  Looking at my charts, though, I see a trend that I don't like.  I am seeing higher FBG numbers even after full days of fasting.  Yesterday, I had coffee with 4 drops of Stevia, a cup of chicken broth and a few glasses of water.  I should have met my goal for FBG this morning.

I was listening to a few podcasts about blood sugar yesterday evening.  They were saying that food is not the only factor that triggers high blood sugar.  You can fast, like I did yesterday, and still show a higher level if you

a. did not sleep well
b. were under stress
c. are sick
d. have not been active
e. have been listening to podcasts about blood sugar

Okay, that last one was made up by my husband.  But seriously, did I sleep well last night?  No.  Am I under stress?  Yes.  Have I been active?  That's a big no, but I have not been active since starting this challenge, and it didn't hurt my levels before, so it may just be the sleep and stress things.

Needless to say, I am fasting today, and coming into the home stretch.

73 DAYS DOWN AND 18 DAYS TO GO

48 FEAST DAYS AND 26 FAST DAYS - FASTING 35% OF THE DAYS

13.6 POUNDS GONE AND 4.4 POUNDS TO GO

76% OF THE WAY TO MY GOAL AFTER 81% OF THE DAYS

7-DAY AVERAGE WEIGHT - 140.7

7-DAY AVERAGE FASTING BLOOD GLUCOSE - 84

I made a few charts to track my progress.  The grey lines are my long term goals. The blue lines are my actual results.  The red lines are my 7-day averages. The last chart is a little heat map to show at a glance how often I have actually had to fast to achieve the results I am after. Click on any chart or photo to enlarge it.

This is a personal challenge just for me, but if anyone reading would like to join me, please talk to your doctor and make sure that it will not conflict with your current medical condition or medications.  If you are taking the challenge, please be sure to let me know how you are doing!  Thanks for reading!

    1. That's too funny!

It has been a struggle at times, but I am still struggling less than I did when I had to weigh and measure everything and eat small amounts of food!

  2. I got to wondering - have you ever measured (weight and BG) at night on your fast days? I'm just wondering if maybe that might give you a little insight....

    1. Now and then, I weigh myself before I go to bed on the days that I fast. I usually find that my weight has not changed since the morning, even though I have not eaten anything. I usually lose my weight overnight.

I am only checking my FBG, so, no, I do not ever check it at night.
