Today is Day 24.
Weight goal - 149.4 or lower
Actual weight - 149.8
Blood glucose goal - 89 or lower
Actual blood glucose -101
Today is a Fast Day.
For me, that means that all I will have today is water, coffee, tea, or broth, all without caloric sweeteners or fat. Each day, I will weigh in, check my fasting blood glucose, find out if I will feast or fast that day, update my chart and post it here on the big blog. I'm posting it to motivate myself not to give up, and if I think that anyone is looking at this, it will help to keep me accountable.
So here is the problem: Even though I ate my regular high fat, medium protein and very low carb food yesterday, my blood glucose continued to go up and so did my weight.
I had BPC for breakfast, a large chef salad with bleu cheese dressing and no croutons for lunch and polish sausage with sauerkraut and onions for dinner. I also had a small square of 82% dark chocolate in the mid-afternoon, breaking my "no snacking" rule.
It is possible that the salad was so large that it put me over on my carbs, or it could have been the chocolate. On the other hand, eating too much protein can also cause blood glucose to go up, and I did have a healthier-than-normal portion of the polish sausage.
So today I am fasting. Once I get back to normal, I will be more careful not to eat as much protein and see if that helps.
23 DAYS DOWN. 68 DAYS TO GO.
19 FEAST DAYS AND 5 FAST DAYS.
4.2 POUNDS GONE. 13.8 POUNDS TO GO.
23% OF THE WAY TO MY GOAL AFTER 25% OF THE DAYS
AVERAGE WEIGHT SO FAR - 149.5 AVERAGE BLOOD GLUCOSE SO FAR - 88

I
made a few charts to track my progress. The orange lines are my goals. The blue lines are my actual results. The
last chart is a little heat map to show at a glance how often I actually
have to fast to achieve the results I am after.

Bummer. I'm sorry! I wonder if the sausage had carbs? That would just be wrong if your SALAD was too high in carbs! :-(
ReplyDeleteIt would not be the first time that a green salad with low carb dressing raised my blood sugar. I think it may have been a combination of the large salad and the generous serving of sausage. The sausage did not even have to have carbs; the excess protein could have been the culprit.
